I was not a picky eater but there were a few foods that I just couldn't bear to swallow. Mom and dad were firm but loving. They established family meals as important daily rituals. Food was not to be wasted. Sorry I didn't phrase that better! <br /><br />But, I do think it's healthy for a child to ask permission for eating outside of served mealtimes, and for choosing their own foods. We eventually found out he had some serious textural issues, not just with food but with clothes. His body would develop sores that would crack and bleed if he wore things other than soft cotton! Even as an adult he struggles with this.
