MYO Salsa Mix

MYO Salsa Mix
Love Homemade Salsa? Not fond of store bought? But find making it can be a bit of a hassle?

Here's MYO Salsa Mix to the rescue!

I keep this mix in my cupboard in a little upcycled jar. On the outside of the jar is a label with the list of ingredients, as well as how to make a batch. That way I never have to get out a recipe book or search online to make a batch - or to refill my little jar. It takes just a few minutes from start to finish.

Here's how it's done:

MYO Salsa Mix
Measure into a small jar or zippered bag and shake to combine
1 Tablespoon Coriander
1 Tablespoon Ground Cumin
3 Tablespoons Chili Powder*
1/2 teaspoon Oregano
1 1/2 teaspoon Salt
1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
3 Tablespoons Dry Cilantro

To Make Cooked Salsa
Blend (pulse briefly) to your favorite Salsa Texture (I use my immersion blender right in the can!)
1 Can (15 oz) Chopped tomatoes with their juice
Add to saucepan with
1/2 chopped Onion
2 Tablespoons MYO Salsa Mix
1 1/2 Tablespoons Water

Simmer till onions soften a little but still have some crunch to them, about 5 minutes
Add
1 Tablespoon Lime Juice (or Lemon Juice, if you prefer)

If you're so inclined, and have it on hand, you can add an optional handful of
Chopped Fresh Cilantro
at serving time.

Chill & Serve with Tortilla Chips or your favorite Dippers - or use as a Condiment.

*Note for international cooks: Chili Powder here in the U.S. is NOT powdered chilis! It is a spice blend for making American Chili Soups and is common in American Grocery Stores. If you cannot find it and have to make your own, you'll be aiming for something along these lines.
